Farid Jalalov, the head coach of the Azerbaijani men's national volleyball team, commented on the team's performance in the Silver European League.
The expert gave an explanation to "Report" about this.
He emphasized that the opposing teams were physically superior:
"Regarding the last two matches, I can say that the Faroe Islands national team had tall volleyball players playing in Denmark and several European countries. But our team was able to cope with the opponent. Although we couldn't recover in the first set, we won easily in the second set. But the 3rd and 4th sets were really tense. Nevertheless, we won. Austria is a very strong team. We lost to them last year. They were superior to us in terms of both strength and height. Considering that volleyball is a game related to height, this is not easy at all. As for the shortcomings, I would like to emphasize the inexperience again. We made mistakes in the game that we didn't make during training. This is due to the lack of game practice. But I hope that we will bring the team to a good level."
The head coach considered the result satisfactory:
"As a coach, two wins do not satisfy me. If it was the team from a few years ago, I think we would have played in the final with Sweden. That is, there was no team we could not defeat. But considering the current situation, the renewals in the squad, and the young players, the result can be considered satisfactory to a certain extent."
He also spoke about the plans:
"I have given the team a few days of rest. This is necessary because we have traveled long distances and played consecutive games in recent days. After a few days, we will start preparing for the qualifying round of the European Championship. We will play against Belgium and Austria. We have two away games and one home game. There are no changes in the national team yet. But certain changes are possible. We will decide on this after the meeting."
F.Jalalov also shared his thoughts on the newly created "DH Volley Baku" team, which he leads:
"We have provided information about the transfers of "DH Volley Baku" on our social networks. Our contracts with legionnaire players are ready. We have also attracted local volleyball players. The team will train at the base in Darnagul. The goal in the Azerbaijan championship is the championship. The team, despite its new creation, is ambitious. We also have time to prepare."
It should be noted that the Azerbaijani national team, which won two of the six matches it played in the preliminary stage of the Silver European League, finished the tournament with 6 points.
