Last night, the "Azerreyl" volleyball club lost to the Dutch club "Orion Stars" with a score of 0:3 (14:25, 12:25, 19:25) in the return match of the 1/32 final stage of the CEV Cup (CEV Cup-European Confederation Cup) and said goodbye to the tournament. In the first game held in Baku, our team also lost with a score of 1:3.
Idman.Biz asked the Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation, Faiq Orucov, to comment on the match. He said that the decisive moment occurred in the first match:
"Unfortunately, our kids lost their chances in Baku. Although they won the first set, they unexpectedly lost to the Dutch in the second set, while leading by five points. I think that this defeat broke our volleyball players psychologically and they lost the next two sets as well."
Faiq Orucov also spoke about the return match:
"In this match, the opponent played better than in the first game, and we could not use all the volleyball players of the main team for some reasons."
The Secretary General emphasized that the last hope for Azerbaijan in the European Cups is the "Xilasədici" club:
"Now our last hope in the European Cups is the "Xilasədici" club. They will play against the Romanian team "Styaua" today in the "Challenge Cup". Yes, we lost the first game with a score of 0:3, but the kids fought to the end in every set. Moreover, as they say, hope dies last. I think that if our volleyball players exert maximum effort, they can beat the Romanian club."
