A few days ago, Sharapova attended the "Time100" gala in New York, dedicated to the 100 most influential people of the year. During the event, she gave an interview, specifically touching on her current relationship with Serena.
"I have shared both the most difficult moments and important victories on the court with her. As a result, we have deep respect for each other, and I didn't want to see anyone else on stage besides her. I just contacted her. Do I have Serena's number? Of course. We have become even closer after ending our careers. I texted first because I didn't want to call and bother her. But she immediately called me back.
We talked for over an hour. We talked about our careers, our lives, our children, our businesses. Then I asked, "By the way, would you like to introduce me to the "Tennis Hall of Fame"?" She agreed and, like a true athlete, did everything at a high level. No one knew about it, not even my father sitting next to me. Then Serena came on stage. I wanted to make her speech a big surprise for everyone, and I felt it in the hall. Serena created a real sensation and gave a wonderful speech. Her participation in this ceremony was very impressive. I couldn't think of anyone else for this role," Sharapova said.
