Taliban militants have banned table football in the Daykundi province of Afghanistan.
Lent.az reports with reference to foreign media that football is not completely prohibited - table football is allowed if the heads of all figures are cut off.
The reason for this is that the miniature figures of the players resemble idols. It is noted that this is believed to be haram in Islam.
The Taliban offered a "compromise": table football clubs were ordered to break the heads of players to avoid a complete ban. If this requirement is not met, the game will be completely cancelled.
This incident is just one of a number of restrictions and bans imposed by the Taliban in Afghanistan over the past four years. Various games and entertainment have already been cancelled. For example, the sports authorities of the "Taliban" movement previously declared chess haram (forbidden), suspending the activities of the Afghanistan Chess Federation.
