Australian tennis player Max Purcell has been banned for 18 months for violating anti-doping rules.
"Report" reports that the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has released information about this.
The two-time Grand Slam winner has repeatedly used infusions of more than 100 milliliters. He admitted to receiving more than 500 ml of intravenous infusions twice in December 2023. According to the World Anti-Doping Code and the Tennis Anti-Doping Program (TADP), the limit for intravenous infusions should be 100 ml within 12 hours.
In mid-December last year, the ITIA informed him of a potential violation of anti-doping rules. On the same day, the tennis player voluntarily requested a temporary disqualification, which took effect immediately. The Australian athlete admitted the violation and the ITIA reduced the sanctions against him by 25% for cooperating with anti-doping authorities during the investigation.
It should be noted that M. Purcell's sentence will expire on June 11, 2026. The tennis player will be deprived of prize money for tournaments in which he participated from the date of the first anti-doping rule violation (December 16, 2023) to the first negative sample (until February 3, 2024) and his results will be announced during this period.
