Two Azerbaijani Para-badminton players have qualified for the semi-finals of the European Championship in Istanbul, Turkey.
According to "Report", junior Paralympian Zahra Salmanli competed with her British teammate Krysten Coombs in the mixed doubles (SH-6 category).
They won their first victory by defeating their Turkish rivals 2:0 (Sudenaz Şanlı, Ali Altıparmak) in the group stage, and lost 1:2 to the Scottish and Polish duet (Andrew Davies, Darija Bujnicka) in the second match.
Z.Salmanli and K.Coombs qualified for the semi-finals of the European Championship by defeating their French rivals (Maxime Greboval, Pauline Pelle) 2:1 in the 1/4 finals. Thus, they have secured at least a bronze medal for themselves.
20-year-old young Para-badminton player Ibrahim Aliyev repeated the same success. Ibrahim Aliyev competed with his Polish teammate Bartlomiej Mroz in the mixed doubles (SU-5 category).
They won their first victory by defeating their British rivals 2:0 (Antony Forster, Jack Isaacs) in the group stage, and lost 0:2 to the French duet (Meril Loquette, Lucas Mazur) in the second match.
I.Aliyev and B.Mroz qualified for the semi-finals of the European Championship by avenging their defeat against the French rivals in the group stage, winning 2:1 in the 1/4 finals. Thus, they have secured at least a bronze medal for themselves.
It should be noted that the semi-final matches will take place tomorrow.
