Today, a meeting of the Executive Committee (EC) of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) was held in the administrative building of the NOC. Sport24.az reports that the meeting of the Executive Committee was opened by the Vice-President of the NOC, Chingiz Huseynzade, who introduced the members of the EC to the issues on the agenda.
The agenda included the presentation of the medals, which had been subjected to inoculation and replaced with new ones, to the Olympic medalists who won medals at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games, a report on the NOC's projects and programs, the final results of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, the creation of a new Council of Experts to further increase control over team sports, the solemn celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Atlanta 1996 Summer Olympic Games, and current issues.
Speaking at the event, Chingiz Huseynzade stated that the bronze medals won by Paris 2024 silver medalist taekwondo fighter Gashim Magomedov and Greco-Roman wrestler Hasrat Jafarov were replaced with new ones due to inoculation. "Some problems arose with the medals of two of our athletes who won medals at the Paris Olympics. Long-term correspondence was conducted with the Organizing Committee regarding this. After the issue was resolved positively, the updated medals of Gashim Magomedov and Hasrat Jafarov were brought to Baku. For this reason, we decided to present those medals at the meeting of the Executive Committee," said Chingiz Huseynzade.
At the meeting, the medals of the Olympic medalists Hasrat Jafarov in Greco-Roman wrestling and taekwondo fighter Gashim Magomedov, who won medals at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games, which were subjected to inoculation and replaced with new ones, were presented.
Chingiz Huseynzade spoke about the final results of the XXV Winter Olympic Games hosted by the Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo: "The Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games were the eighth Winter Olympics in which our country participated. Our country was first represented at the Winter Olympic Games held in Nagano, Japan in 1998 and has since participated in all Winter Olympics consecutively. At this Olympics, two of our athletes - Vladimir Litvintsev in figure skating and Anastasia Papatoma in slalom skiing competed.
Vladimir Litvintsev competed in the short program at the Mediolanum Forum arena in Milan on February 10, completing his performance with a score of 63.63 points. With this result, he failed to qualify for the top 24 and did not qualify for the free program competitions held on February 13. Our other representative, Anastasia Papatoma, competed in the slalom skiing competitions on February 18. Anastasia completed her first attempt in 59th place among 96 athletes. With this result, the Azerbaijani representative also had the opportunity to participate in the second stage. Our representative crossed the finish line among 64 participants in the second attempt, and based on the results of both attempts, completed her performance in the XXV Winter Olympic Games skiing competitions in 51st place. Her result is considered a historical result for our country in the slalom skiing competitions of the Winter Olympic Games".
At the meeting of the Executive Committee, Chingiz Huseynzade stated that this year will be the 30th anniversary of the Atlanta 1996 Summer Olympic Games. He said that the National Olympic Committee has prepared an action plan for the solemn celebration of this anniversary.
Ceyhun Rahmanov, Director of the International Programs Department of the NOC, gave a report on the NOC's projects and programs in accordance with the agenda of the meeting.
The meeting also adopted decisions on the permanent participation of Farida Azizova, Chairman of the NOC Athletes Commission, in the meeting of the Executive Committee without the right to vote, the creation of a Council of Experts under the Executive Committee of the NOC to further increase control over team sports, and other current issues.
