Figure skater Vladimir Litvintsev, representing Azerbaijan, cannot fully understand what happened to him at the Winter Olympic Games-2026 in Italy.
These thoughts were expressed to Idman.Biz by Gunel Badalova, Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Winter Sports Federation, while commenting on V. Litvintsev's unsuccessful performance at the Games.
It should be reminded that the figure skater scored 63.63 points in the short program, taking the last - 29th place among 29 participants. At the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, Litvintsev was 18th among 29 athletes.
According to the federation official, the course of events did not promise an unsuccessful performance in Italy.
"Vladimir's trainings went very well. The six-minute warm-up he attended shortly before the competition was also ideal. In addition, he performed quite well throughout the season, completing his program cleanly in the Grand Prix stages. Litvintsev was ready, everything was in order. But this is sports, these things happen. Our figure skater himself cannot understand what exactly happened. Perhaps this was due to very strong excitement. All this had an impact, and unfortunately, it did not work out this time," the federation official said.
She also clarified when a decision would be made regarding Vladimir Litvintsev's future in the national team.
"At the end of March, Litvintsev will be waiting for the World Championship. There he must, as they say, recover and show his true level. Currently, all attention is focused on the World Championship. After that competition, we will determine how to move forward," the Secretary General of the Federation added.
