Italian swimmers Kiara Tarantino and Benedetta Pilato have been detained at Singapore airport on suspicion of perfume theft.
Lent.az reports with reference to foreign media that on August 15, the athletes were returning home after the World Championships and a vacation in Bali. However, police detained them before boarding the plane.
Tarantino and Pilato are accused of taking perfumes from the store without paying. Video surveillance footage shows Tarantino putting the goods in Pilato's bag.
Thanks to the intervention of the Italian Embassy in Singapore, the situation was resolved: the athletes were returned their documents and released home with just a warning.
It should be noted that Tarantino won a bronze medal in the relay race at the 2021 European Championships. Pilato became the European champion in the 50-meter breaststroke in the same year.
