European Deaf Sport Organisation General Assembly to be held in Azerbaijan

At the initiative of the Azerbaijan Deaflympics Committee, the General Assembly of the European Deaf Sport Organisation (EDSO) will be held in our country in 2027.

According to the information provided to "Report" from the Committee, the event, which is planned to be held in our country for the first time, will create great opportunities for athletes with hearing impairments, as well as increase the importance of Azerbaijan in the deaflympic movement.

Founded in 1983, EDSO includes more than 1,000 sports clubs for people with hearing impairments from more than 40 countries and tens of thousands of athletes with hearing impairments. The organization is currently the most respected body uniting athletes and people with hearing impairments in the European region. Also, in April 2025, at the initiative of the Deaflympics Committee, the leadership of the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) and EDSO visited our country for the first time to get acquainted with the activities of the committee and Azerbaijani athletes.

It should be noted that the Deaflympics Committee, which started operating in October 2023, aims to develop physical education and sports among people with hearing impairments, to achieve their rehabilitation and integration into a healthy society through this, as well as to widely develop sports included in the deaflympic program in which people with limited hearing abilities are interested, and to prepare athletes in these sports. The Committee has been accepted as a member of ICSD since 2025.
