The winners of the "Baku Marathon 2026", held on May 3 at the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, have been determined. The race, which was organized for the first time on a full 42-kilometer route instead of a 21-kilometer distance, experienced a great revival.
Idman.Biz reports that Turkish representative Ahmet Alkanoğlu reached the finish line fastest among men. Ukrainian athlete Vitaliy Shafar took second place, and Kyrgyz runner Yrskeldi Akerov took third place.
In the women's competition, Elena Tolstykh from Russia won the first place, rising to the highest step of the podium. Azerbaijani representative Anna Yusupova finished the race second, and Kazakh athlete Shirin Akimbay finished third.
In total, the marathon, which was attended by 25,000 participants, turned into a real sports holiday for the residents and guests of the capital.

Thus, the marathon was organized for the first time at a full distance of 42 kilometers.
Idman.Biz reports that along with Azerbaijani citizens, representatives of the USA, Germany, Great Britain, China, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and other countries are also fighting for victory in the marathon. People with disabilities, as well as participants with Down syndrome, are also testing their strength in the competition.
Although the marathon started at 10:00 in the morning, a great revival has been observed in the State Flag Square since 7:00. Yoga and warm-up exercises were held for participants in the athletes' zone, and various interactive games were organized in the entertainment zone. The race starting from the State Flag Square will end at the finish line in the "Sea Breeze" area.
