Mukharbi Kirzhinov, the 1972 Olympic champion and renowned weightlifter, has passed away at the age of 77.
Idman.Biz reports that the head of the Republic of Adygea, Murat Kumpilov, announced this on his Telegram channel.
He stated that Kirzhinov was the first athlete from Adygea to win an Olympic gold medal and made an invaluable contribution to the development of sports in the region and throughout the country.
It should be noted that Mukharbi Kirzhinov competed in the weight category up to 67.5 kg. He was a two-time world (1972, 1973) and European (1973, 1974) champion, and also repeatedly broke world and USSR records.
