Zelim Tckaev, who was exempt from the first stage, defeated Jianqnan Wang (China) in the 1/16 finals, followed by Luan Almeida (Brazil). Our judoka also defeated Yun-Hwan Lee (South Korea) in the 1/4 finals. His opponent in the semi-final was Tato Grigalashvili (Georgia). Zelim, who lost, faced Nugzari Tatalashvili (UAE) for the bronze medal. Our judoka won with a golden score, bringing the first medal to our country at the world championship.
It should be noted that Azerbaijan is represented by 13 judokas (9 men, 4 women) in 10 weight categories in individual competitions at the World Cup. 8 of them have already finished their performance without medals. Our national team will also compete in the mixed team competition.
