Today, young athletes from various regions of the country demonstrated memorable and remarkable performances within the framework of the Azerbaijan Open Regional Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship.
Idman.Biz spoke with the winners of each age category.
The winner of the youngest age category, nine-year-old Nuray Dolchayeva from Sumgayit, said:
"I am very happy to have taken first place. I thank my coach Fatima khanum for supporting and helping me."
She has been doing gymnastics since she was six years old:
"I watched gymnasts performing with clubs on TV. I liked it very much and asked my mother to enroll me in training."
According to Nuray, she looks up to the gymnasts who win the national championship and dreams of being in their place one day.
Another athlete representing Sumgayit, 11-year-old Inci Ismikhanli, won first place in the junior category.
She said that she enjoyed the competition very much: "I wasn't nervous at all. My coach supported me, I love her very much."
The athlete's favorite apparatus is the ball. In her opinion, she showed her best performance with this apparatus.
Ismikhanli is the first person in her family to decide to practice gymnastics and intends to continue her sports career. Her favorite gymnast is Bulgarian Stiliana Nikolova.
The winner in the senior age category was 15-year-old Mehriban Salayeva. She said that preparing for the competition was not easy, but she was satisfied with the result:
"I am satisfied with my performance, even though there were mistakes. I especially liked my hoop performance."
Mehriban also did not hide her excitement before the performance:
"But I was most worried not about myself, but about my friends who were performing. We supported each other and hugged before going to the carpet."
She added that she dreams of participating in European tournaments and becoming a national champion.
