Italian gymnast Lorenzo Bonicelli has been placed in a medically induced coma.
Idman.biz reports that the 23-year-old athlete was injured after falling on his neck during the men's team all-around competition in artistic gymnastics at the Universiade.
Bonicelli, who was carried out of the hall on a stretcher, was taken to the university clinic. After the incident, the Italian team withdrew from the competition.
The gymnast underwent surgery and is currently in an induced coma. More detailed information about his condition will be available within 10 days.
