Azerbaijani gymnast Tofiq Aliyev didn't take many risks at the Baku World Cup to avoid finishing without a medal.
According to "Report", the athlete made a statement to journalists about this.
The tumbler, who won the silver award, said that he maintained his leadership until the last final:
"I think my muscles were tired in my last attempt. That's why I didn't take risks. Because I didn't want to be without a medal in front of local fans. There was such a possibility. Therefore, I didn't complicate my performance. I did what I could and won the silver medal. I could have won the gold medal as well. According to the final decision of the judges, I bent my legs in the transition element. Because of this, 0.6 points were deducted. That's why I took second place."
He also spoke about Mikhail Malkin, another Azerbaijani gymnast who won the gold medal:
"Maybe he has as much experience in sports as my age. For the first time, we took a place together on the podium. We have wanted this for a long time and it came true today. The European Championship awaits us, where we want to perform successfully both in the team competition and individually."
