The 28th national competition dedicated to the memory of Tofiq Karayev, a judge of the All-Union category and professor, was held with the organization of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Azerbaijan Athletics Federation and the support of World Athletics.
Idman.Biz reports that Cavid Gurbanov, the president of the Azerbaijan Athletics Federation, speaking at the opening ceremony, spoke about Tofiq Karayev's services and said that the competition is important for athletes in lower age groups to gain experience and further develop in a competitive environment.
80 athletes born in 2012-2013, representing Baku, as well as Ganja, Barda, Khizi, Khachmaz, Astara, Ismayilli and Shamkir, competed in the competition organized at the Baku Athletics Center.
Participants tested their strength in 60 and 200 meter races and long jump. Kamran Aliyev won in the 60 and 200 meter races for boys, and Sofia Israfilova won in the girls' race. Timur Jafari showed the highest result in the long jump competition for boys, and Sofia Israfilova for girls.
