Honored coach of the USSR, Tatyana Tarasova, commented on the situation regarding the possible transfer of Russian figure skater Veronika Zhilina to the Azerbaijani national team.
İdman.biz reports that she spoke about the young athlete's chances of becoming a leader of the Russian national team.
"Is Zhilina capable of becoming the leader of our team? We have several athletes who will fight for this, and Veronika is one of them. In any case, Zhilina will stay with us this year. A decision will be made based on the results after her performances," Tarasova said in her speech.
She stated that Zhilina is one of the strongest figure skaters in the country and is fighting for a place on the team. Tarasova assessed the figure skater's chances of playing for the Azerbaijani national team: "If Zhilina wants to play for the Azerbaijani national team 100 percent, she will have to wait another year."
It should be noted that the Russian Figure Skating Federation opposed Veronika Zhilina's desire to play for the Azerbaijani national team. The president of the organization, Anton Sikharulidze, emphasized that the athlete could be the leader of the Russian team for many years.
