It is possible to give a positive response to the involvement of Tembo John, the husband of Azerbaijani Paralympic champion Lamia Veliyeva, in the national team.
The Azerbaijan Athletics Federation (AAF) told "Report" in response to a request.
The organization emphasized that the athlete, who is originally from the Republic of South Africa, participates as a club representative in various competitions organized by the AAF and is not currently a member of the national team:
"An application has been received from the athlete regarding his desire to represent Azerbaijan. The issue was discussed by the coaches of the national team, and based on this, certain standards were determined. If Tembo John meets these standards, it is possible to give a positive response to his desire to represent our country."
Let us remind that Lamia Veliyeva won a gold medal in the 400 meters at the Tokyo-2020 Summer Paralympic Games and in the 100 meters at the Paris-2024 Paralympics.
Tembo John became the champion in the 60-meter race at the International Winter Tournament held in Baku on January 30.
