The 29th international memorial dedicated to the memory of Honored Coach Afgan Safarov has started with the organization of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Azerbaijan Athletics Federation, and the support of World Athletics.
According to Idman.Biz, Aydın Mammadov, sector manager of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and Kanan Maharramov, head of the international relations and development department of the Azerbaijan Athletics Federation, speaking at the opening ceremony, spoke about Afgan Safarov's services in the development of athletics in our country and stated that the memorial is important in terms of selection for prestigious competitions.
About 80 athletes from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan are competing in the competition, which is included in the World Athletics calendar platform.
On the first day of the memorial, Tembo John and Lamiya Valiyeva, respectively, among men and women in the 100-meter race, Ruslan Litovski and Ilaha Guliyeva, representatives of Kyrgyzstan, in the 400-meter race, and Bakhtiyar Asgarli in the 1500-meter race became the winners of the tournament. Rustam Mammadov and Ekaterina Sariyeva climbed to the highest step of the podium in the triple jump.
Ismayil Aliyev and Sakina Hajizade won the title in the shot put.
It should be noted that the memorial is important in terms of determining athletes who will participate in the European Championship, the Balkan Championship, and prestigious competitions for lower age groups.
