Yesterday evening, the Azerbaijani women's national sabre fencing team won a gold medal at the Islamic Games, defeating the Uzbekistan team in the final.
Idman.Biz contacted Chingiz Mustafayev, the head coach of the Azerbaijani national team, to comment on this success.
"Let me tell you something, as bombastic as it may sound, we came to Riyadh specifically for the gold. I knew that our women's fencing team could become the champion of the Islamic Games - this was our only chance for a gold medal, and we took it. We couldn't do it in the individual competitions.
My only concern was the refereeing. You can't even imagine what we went through! In the final alone, the referee didn't count five or six hits for us. But I believed in my team and knew that the girls would cope, no matter what!" - said Chingiz Mustafayev.
