Bakhtiyar Asgarli, the national cross-country champion, aims to break the Azerbaijani record.
The athlete from Barda spoke about his victory at the Azerbaijani championship and his goals.
"Everything was great, we try to do our best. I had strong opponents, but working harder played a decisive role in my victory. My main goal is to break the Azerbaijani record, as it is one of the most difficult goals. The Balkan Championship and some memorial tournaments are expected in July and August," he said in a statement to report.az.
The athlete emphasized the importance of infrastructure for the development of athletics in the regions:
"Most athletes come from the regions, so it would be better if more attention were paid there. There is a shortage of stadiums, mainly with circular running tracks. If there were such places, children would be more attracted to them. Currently, there is little interest because there is no space."
It should be noted that B. Asgarli took first place in the 10 km cross-country race at the national championship organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Azerbaijan Athletics Federation.
