A tragic accident occurred in the first qualifying session of the Nürburgring 24 Hours race, resulting in the death of pilot Yuha Miettinen. The 66-year-old Finnish driver died from severe injuries sustained on the Nordschleife track.
İdman.Biz reports that the race was immediately stopped due to a massive accident at 17:55 local time, 25 minutes into the four-hour race. The incident occurred at the track's famous "Karussell" corner, involving a total of seven competing cars.
The official bulletin issued by the race management states:
"Following a collision involving several vehicles, the race was immediately stopped to allow for rescue operations. Despite the immediate arrival of emergency services at the scene, medical personnel were unable to save pilot Yuha Miettinen (BMW 325i, number 121). After unsuccessful resuscitation attempts, the driver died at the Medical Center."
The other six drivers involved in the accident have been taken to nearby hospitals as a precaution. It is reported that their lives are not in danger. Due to the tragedy that occurred, the race was not resumed.
It should be noted that this is the first death recorded during a race on the Nordschleife track since June 2013.
