German automobile manufacturer "Mercedes-Benz" and its CEO Toto Wolff have suspended talks to acquire a stake in the "Alpine" team because the company was not satisfied with the price demanded by the "Otro Capital" investment group.
According to İdman.Biz, citing BBC Sport, "Otro Capital" was asking for $720 million for its stake and valued the entire team at $3 billion. "Otro Capital" itself paid 200 million euros for its stake in June 2023.
According to the source, "Mercedes" considers a fair valuation for "Alpine" to be in the range of $2.2-2.4 billion, based on the standard method for valuing loss-making companies. For comparison, in recent deals, "Mercedes" was valued at £4.6 billion (approximately $6.2 billion) and world champion "McLaren" at £3.5 billion (approximately $4.7 billion). Both teams are profitable and significantly more successful than "Alpine", which is fifth in the Constructors' Championship after five races in the 2026 season and at the bottom of the standings at the end of 2025.
A "Renault" source confirmed to the BBC that the talks had been suspended. "Mercedes" and Wolff declined to comment.
