McLaren team boss Andrea Stella says they are using the unexpected break in Formula 1 to improve the car's aerodynamic performance.
Idman.Biz reports that the postponement of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix due to tensions in the Middle East has created a five-week gap for teams between the Japan and Miami races. According to Stella, this break has created additional opportunities for the development of the MCL40 model.
"Although this break was created for undesirable reasons, it has been beneficial for the team. Our main goal is to improve aerodynamic performance and make the car faster," he said.
The Italian expert also emphasized that Oscar Piastri's second place in the Japanese Grand Prix is an indication of progress. The team is currently working closely with Mercedes High Performance Powertrains (HPP) to make more efficient use of the power unit.
Stella added that this period has also been a good time for the team to rest a bit after intense winter preparations. He emphasized that starting from the Miami race, McLaren believes it will be ready for more superior positions and victories in the fight against Mercedes and Ferrari.
