"McLaren" and "Mercedes" pilots have taken to the "Nurburgring" track after six years.
Idman.Biz reports that Lando Norris and George Russell drove a bolide during "Pirelli" tire tests on the legendary "Nurburgring Nordschleife" track in Germany, repeating Max Verstappen's steps.
The "McLaren" and "Mercedes" teams assisted the Italian tire supplier with a two-day dry tire test. This is the first "Formula 1" activity at the "Nurburgring" in six years after the 2020 Eiffel Grand Prix.
The tests took place during a five-week break in "Formula 1" after the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grand Prix were canceled due to security concerns related to the ongoing situation in the Middle East. While on the track, both Russell and Norris took the opportunity to test the famous 20.8-kilometer "Nordschleife", which hosted "Formula 1" until Niki Lauda's fatal accident in 1976 caused the sport to leave it permanently.
Max Verstappen, on the other hand, has been a regular at the "Green Hell" since making his GT3 debut there in September 2025. The four-time world champion last won the NLS2 race in March with a "Mercedes-AMG GT3", but was later disqualified for a technical infringement. He is preparing for the "Nurburgring" 24-hour race in May.
It should be noted that the reason why the track is called the "Green Hell" is that after Jackie Stewart, a three-time "Formula 1" world champion, described the track with this phrase after winning in terrible weather conditions in 1968.
