"Everything is fine for now. We will try to maintain our leadership until the end and become champions." These words were said to Sport24.az by Zamiq Aliyev, a football player of the Azerbaijani national team who lives as a legionnaire in the Albanian club "Egnatia".
The 23-year-old defender spoke about his future plans: "My goal is to play in higher leagues. I am focused on my work for this. I think there are many things I need to work on. I think I am at a level to compete in many championships. But I can't name a specific country."
Aliyev noted that several clubs were interested in him during the winter transfer period: "There are also teams interested from Azerbaijan. But there has been no official offer."
The defender did not want to talk much about the fact that few Azerbaijani football players play abroad: "This is a very broad topic. There are many reasons here. It would not be right to talk about just one of them specifically."
Finally, he said that he is waiting for an invitation for the national team's friendly matches in March: "I would be very happy if I get called up to the training camp. I hope that I will also get a chance in this gathering."
