FIFA has approved a number of significant rule changes on the eve of the 2026 World Cup in order to increase discipline in the game and minimize time wasting.
Idman.Biz reports that, according to the new rules, stricter measures will be taken against goalkeepers stopping the game for tactical purposes. If the goalkeeper stops the game due to injury, the players will not be allowed to approach the technical area and receive instructions from the coaches.
In addition, the powers of the VAR system have been expanded. Now, the video assistant referee will also be able to check whether the attacking team committed a foul before set pieces.
Within the framework of the new rules, a countdown will be applied to throw-ins and goal kicks to increase the tempo of the game, and substitutions should be carried out in a shorter time.
It should be noted that the 2026 World Cup will be held in the USA, Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19.
