FIFA has approved a new rule for the 2026 World Cup: there will be two additional breaks in each match for drinking water.
According to Idman.Biz, the tournament's chief coordinator, Manolo Zubiria, announced this in an interview with FIFA's official website.
The breaks will last three minutes and will be applied regardless of weather conditions, match location, or start time. The change aims to improve the safety and physical comfort of players during tight schedules and high-intensity matches.
WC-2026 will be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. The tournament will begin on June 11, and the final match will start on July 19. Forty-eight teams will participate in the new format.
