Contract extension talks between winger Vinicius Junior and Real Madrid have reached a standstill.
According to Idman.Biz, citing The Athletic, this is likely due to the player's conflict with head coach Xabi Alonso.
Earlier this year, Real Madrid offered the Brazilian a contract extension with a salary increase to approximately 20 million euros per year. After being rejected, the club asked the player's representatives to reveal their figures. Vinicius's team demanded a historic agreement with one of the highest salaries in the club's history. Including all bonuses, the amount could reach 30 million euros per season, which was a similar contract previously signed with Cristiano Ronaldo. This included a base salary, performance bonuses, and a contract extension bonus, which had not previously been offered to Real Madrid players.
Additional negotiations were held before the start of the season, but now they have reached a stalemate. Real Madrid understands that, in addition to financial disagreements, the difficult relationship between one of their star players and head coach Xabi Alonso is also hindering efforts to make progress in negotiations.
Vinicius's position may be perceived as a negotiating tactic, but according to the source, the player does not see the need to sign a long-term contract with the club, considering his relationship with Alonso. Although this is not a surprise for Real Madrid, it has caused concern within the club.
It is alleged that the conflict between Vinicius and Alonso arose due to the player's substitution in the second half of the 2:1 defeat to Barcelona in the 10th round of La Liga. The Brazilian then harshly expressed his anger at the coach's decision.
