"First of all, I would like to note that being in those places not only made us proud, but also saddened us. Because there are traces of our martyrs there. I wish God's mercy to all our martyrs, and healing to our veterans."
Idman.biz reports that these words were said by Sevinj Jafarzadeh, the captain of the Azerbaijani women's national football team, in her statement to AZERTAC while talking about their visit to the liberated territories within the framework of the "Victory Road" social project.
The team's striker shared her impressions of the trip: "I have watched the speeches of our compatriots who were captured in the 1st Karabakh War. I listened to what they said, and as a citizen, I closely followed the terrible events that befell our people in Karabakh. During my time there, those moments came to my mind, as well as the special forces climbing the rocks with their hands and fighting during the liberation of Shusha. This is a very magnificent and proud feeling. The traces of Armenian vandalism are clearly visible in the Fuzuli and Aghdam regions. I would say that even the trees of those lands were plundered by the Armenians. Seeing this deeply saddens each of us. But it is gratifying that restoration work is underway in Karabakh under the instruction of President Ilham Aliyev, and life is returning there. It is a matter of pride to see the newly built villages and the return of people. I also felt a sense of belonging and kindness there. We are a very strong and brave nation. We have proven ourselves in every field. Sometimes time is required, but we have always achieved what we want. As a nation, our greatest victory is the liberation of Karabakh from occupation."
She said that she hopes that the national team will play a match at the Khankendi city stadium in the near future: "This is one of our biggest dreams. I hope that the competent authorities will support the holding of the team's games in Karabakh - in Khankendi. Finally, I express my gratitude to everyone who gave us this victory, returned our lands, and sacrificed their health, blood, and lives for this cause."
