Record updated: Double championship

As we reported, the champion has been determined in the Azerbaijan 1st league. "Gabala" won the gold medals with 4 matches remaining, thanks to a 1:0 home victory over MOIK.

QOL.az reports, citing the PFL website, that the team coached by Kakhaber Tskhadadze has reached 58 points. The leader of the 1st league secured the 1st place as it is 14 points ahead of the 2nd place.

This is the second such success for the "red-blacks". The regional representative also won the first division in the 2005/06 season. At that time, "Gilan", representing Khanlar, later moved to Gabala and changed its name after a while.

"Gabala" is the 6th team to win the championship twice in the 1st league, which was called I league and I division in different years. Until now, 5 teams - "Araz Nakhchivan", MOIK, "Neftchala", "Garadagh Lokbatan" and "Turan Tovuz" held the record for the number of championships in the 1st league. In total, 26 clubs took the 1st place in the lower division.

True, in the 1993/94 season, the final between the winners of the two groups did not take place. Both teams promoted to the top division were considered league winners. Competitions were not held in the 1997/98, 1998/99, 2002/03 seasons.
