The Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia is considering the possibility of selling a controlling package of shares in the Al-Nassr club, where Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo plays.
Idman.Biz, citing La Gazzetta dello Sport, reports that the potential buyer is a group of investors led by the US company "RedBird Capital," which owns Italy's "Milan" club.
According to information, "RedBird" representatives have already had two meetings with PIF management. During the negotiations, the purchase of 70 percent of the shares of the Saudi Arabian club was discussed. The estimated value of the share package is 230 million dollars (approximately 391 million manat).
One particularly interesting aspect is the possible participation of Ronaldo himself in the new ownership structure. According to information, the 41-year-old Portuguese could become one of the co-owners of the club by acquiring 20 percent of Al-Nassr's shares.
One of the reasons for the potential sale is the club's financial situation. According to the Italian publication, Al-Nassr's debt reaches approximately 190 million euros (approximately 375 million manat). PIF also hopes to improve the team's economic indicators by attracting new commercial sponsors.
Another potential participant in the deal is Saudi Arabia's "Saudi Media Company."
Nevertheless, PIF, "RedBird Capital," and Al-Nassr management have not yet made an official statement. According to press information, negotiations are ongoing.
