The English Premier League will reject a proposal to expand VAR powers following talks with the Referees Association (PGMO).
İdman.Biz reports this with reference to "The Guardian".
In February, the International Football Association Board (IFAB) approved the expansion of VAR powers: video assistant referees will now be able to intervene with second yellow cards and corner kicks. However, IFAB made this change voluntary for leagues: championships must decide for themselves whether to use VAR in this way.
The PGMO has advised the Premier League to refrain from expanding the use of VAR. The association fears that the use of VAR under the new rules could significantly increase the duration of matches, which could increase pressure on referees and affect relations with broadcasters. Meanwhile, clubs are aware that the new rules could slow down and lengthen the pace of matches.
The final decision will be made by the Premier League clubs at their annual general meeting in June.
