According to local media, Moroccan footballer Faten Ben Ahmed Al-Azizi drowned while trying to cross the sea to the Spanish autonomous territory of Ceuta in North Africa.
According to Idman.Biz, citing the BBC, since July 30, approximately 60,000 migrants have crossed the border between Morocco and Spain illegally to reach the city of Ceuta. More than 50 of them have died, most of whom drowned while trying to swim across the border fence.
Al-Azizi's death has caused deep sadness among his teammates, friends, and the Moroccan sports community.
Many have offered condolences, remembering the young athlete's sacrifice, high professionalism, and kind nature.
The Moroccan Professional Footballers' Federation has also offered deep condolences to Al-Azizi's family, relatives, and teammates.
According to the Spanish Ministry of Interior, around 25,000 people successfully crossed the border but were later quickly deported back to Morocco.
Experts believe that poverty is the main reason for this massive migration by sea in search of a better life. Social media posts have also caused thousands of people, mostly young people, to try to cross the border from the city of Fnidek.
