Following the Catalan team's relegation from La Liga, "Girona" head coach Míchel Sánchez has left the club.
"Míchel Sánchez will not continue as the coach of "Girona". The club expresses its sincere gratitude to the Madrid-born coach for his dedication, loyalty and professionalism in leading the first team, as well as for his human, accessible and respectful attitude towards club members, fans, management and all staff.
Under his leadership, "Girona" experienced one of the most remarkable periods in its history. In addition to securing its place in La Liga thanks to a courageous and different style of play, the team achieved unprecedented results and qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time, finishing in a historic third place in the 2023/24 season.
The club also wishes to acknowledge the work of the coaching staff Salva Funes, David Porsel and Juan Carlos Balaguer, highlighting their professionalism, dedication and contribution to the team's daily work. All three are ending their careers at the club.
"Girona" wishes Míchel and his team great success in the future, both professionally and personally, - the team's website says.
"Girona" finished the season in 19th place, second to last, with 41 points.
