Luis Suarez has been banned for 6 matches in the League Cup for spitting at an opponent.
Lent.az reports, citing foreign media, that Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez of the Major League Soccer (MLS) club Inter Miami has been banned for six games in the League Cup for his behavior in the tournament final.
On Monday night, Inter Miami were thrashed 0-3 by Seattle Sounders in the League Cup final. After the game, a mass brawl broke out on the field, during which Suarez spat at a Seattle representative. The 38-year-old footballer later apologized for his behavior.
The ban will not apply to MLS games, but it is noted that Suarez may still face sanctions from the league.
In addition to Suarez, Seattle Sounders head coach Stephen Lenhart (5 games), as well as Inter Miami players Tomas Aviles (3) and Sergio Busquets (2) were penalized for their participation in the post-match brawl.
The League Cup is a tournament held between MLS and Mexican Liga MX clubs. Inter Miami won the cup in the 2023 season.
