Liverpool has unveiled a new monument to be erected at Anfield in memory of Diogo Jota.
The Liverpool and Portugal international footballer and his brother, Andre Teixeira da Silva, who played for Penafiel, died in a car accident in north-western Spain on July 3, 2025. Their Lamborghini crashed after a tyre blew out while overtaking another car at high speed. The car veered off the road and burst into flames.

The monument, called "Eternal 20" (Jota's shirt number), is dedicated to the lives of the brothers, their bond with each other and the love and respect they are shown by their families, team-mates and fans around the world.
At the heart of the monument is a flowing heart sculpture, symbolising Diogo's iconic goal celebration, and from different angles the numbers 20 and 30, which adorned the brothers' shirts, are visible.
The statue will also be engraved with the lyrics of the popular Jota song, much loved by Liverpool fans - the song they still sing in the 20th minute of every game.
The club will announce the official opening date of the statue at a later date, but will confirm that it will be erected on the 97th Avenue, where thousands of memorabilia - flowers, scarves, artwork, postcards, banners and rivals' shirts - were placed immediately after the brothers' deaths to create an impressive memorial space.
The memorial will be mounted on a laser-etched Granby Rock (a durable material made from recycled materials - ed.) stone plinth dedicated to both brothers.
The monument itself will incorporate many of the tangible mementos that remain at Anfield. This unique re-use process ensures that the voices and emotions shared by fans at the time become a permanent part of this monument.
The monument will also incorporate personal references reflecting Diogo's life beyond football - including a piece of a game panel located on the plinth - and will serve as a lasting symbol of love, unity and remembrance, as well as a place for everyone to reflect, remember and pay their respects," Liverpool said in a statement.
