Large-scale riots that started with a referee controversy in a football match in Tripoli, the capital of Libya, resulted in an attack on government buildings.
Lent.az reports that the wave of violence started at the stadium. Angry fans protesting the failure to award an 11-meter penalty entered the field. The chaos then spread to the city streets and parked cars were set on fire.
Soldiers had to use live ammunition to disperse the crowd. This led to heavy clashes. One soldier was killed and seven more were injured in the shooting.
As a result, the crowd entered the government quarter and set fire to the building where the Prime Minister's office is located.
