Former French national team player and 1998 World Champion Frank Leboeuf believes that Kylian Mbappe, who currently plays for Real Madrid in Spain, will not reach the level of Zinedine Zidane as the greatest figure in French football history.
Idman.Biz reports that Leboeuf said this in an interview with GOAL.
"Although it is difficult to compare different eras and careers, Zidane was not only a great football player, but also a favorite of the people, and Mbappe will never reach that status," the world champion emphasized.
According to him, even if Mbappe becomes a world champion for the second time with the French national team and becomes the top scorer in the team's history, it will not put him above Zidane in the ranking. Leboeuf emphasized that Zidane has always been a respected and loved figure, despite the events of 2006.
The former football player stated that some controversial moments in Mbappe's personal life have created a negative attitude towards him in a part of the French public, which prevents him from becoming an icon.
Leboeuf added that Michel Platini and Raymond Kopa remain other great figures in French football, and Mbappe's place in history can only be objectively assessed after he finishes his career.
He also noted that he respects the level of play of the Real Madrid striker, but expects more team play, movement without the ball and support for partners from him.
