Lamine Yamal, the winger for the Spanish football team "Barcelona", has revealed his biggest fear ahead of the World Cup.
Idman.Biz reports that the 18-year-old footballer admitted that he was worried about missing the World Cup after suffering a thigh injury. He said he prayed the injury was not serious.
"I remember the episode when I got injured very well. I was praying inside that it wouldn't be serious. I wanted it to be a cramp or a minor problem because the World Cup was approaching," the striker emphasized.
It is worth recalling that Yamal was injured on April 22 after scoring a penalty in Barcelona's match against Celta. The footballer, who had a problem with the hamstring in his left leg, missed the rest of the club season. However, he was included in the Spanish national team's World Cup squad.
The young footballer said he knew that the recovery period would not be short:
"I had never had such a thigh injury before, but I knew that the recovery period could be long. I was afraid that the injury would be serious and recurring, keeping me out of the World Cup."
Yamal also stated that he is very excited to play in the World Cup for the first time. He emphasized that after becoming European champion with Spain in 2024, his main goal is to win the world championship:
"We have been waiting for this since the end of the European Championship. Everyone's motivation is very high. We are going as European champions and this time we want to win the world championship."
