The head of the Italian Serie A referees corps, Gianluca Rocchi, has decided to resign from his post. Italian media reports this, according to Sport24.az.
According to reports, this step was taken after an investigation launched by the Milan Prosecutor's Office. Rocchi is reportedly being investigated on suspicion of fraud and possible manipulation in referee appointments. It is alleged that these appointments were favorable to the Inter club.
The functionary announced his removal from office with immediate effect. It was noted that this step was agreed upon with the Italian Referees Association and aims to ensure the normal functioning of the referees corps during the investigation.
In his statement, Rocchi said: "Considering what happened and the interests of the referees corps, I decided to remove myself from office with immediate effect. This is a difficult step, but it will allow the judicial process to proceed calmly. I am confident that I will prove my innocence as a result."
