Despite not having a stadium to host home games and the dire situation in the country, the Haiti national team has qualified for the World Cup. Sport24.az reports that the island nation's team will participate in a prestigious tournament after almost 50 years.
The country has been plagued by violence since the assassination of President Jovenel Moise in 2021, and 85 percent of the capital Port-au-Prince is under the control of armed groups. In March 2024, armed groups turned the stadium where the national team played their home games into a military base, depriving the team of the opportunity to host their rivals. The Haiti national team played its last home game in its own stadium in July 2021.
Despite constantly playing away, the team successfully completed the qualifying stage and secured a place in the World Cup to be held next year.
