Interview with Georgi Adamiya, former striker of "Neftchi" and "Qarabag", to futbolinfo.az
– "Neftchi" failed to reach the final of the Azerbaijan Cup. Were you expecting this result? Can this season be called a fiasco for the "white-blacks"?
– Unfortunately, this season was unsuccessful for "Neftchi". By failing to reach the cup final, the team also lost the chance to qualify for European cups. As a former football player of "Neftchi", this is very upsetting for me.
– What do you think, should the head coach Samir Abasov continue next season, or would it be more beneficial for "Neftchi" to end the cooperation with him?
– Let's take into account that the current squad was not completed by Samir Abasov. It is possible to talk about this, to speculate about whether he should stay or leave, only after seeing the results after Samir himself completes the team before the new season.
– In the cup final, "Qarabag" and "Sabah" will face each other. How do you assess their chances?
– "Sabah" is a good team. Moreover, the final consists of one game. This means that anything can happen. But I still think that "Qarabag" will win the cup.
– Which team's performance surprised you positively this season?
– I would mention "Zira". I like this team very much. The current "Zira" is a good enough team.
– Currently, 4 Georgian football players - Davit Volkov, Giorgi Papunashvili, Rati Ardazishvili and Giorgi Karaishvili - play in the Azerbaijan Premier League. Do you keep track of their performances? Do you think your compatriots are showing themselves well in Azerbaijan?
– Yes, I keep track of it. Ardazishvili participates in almost all matches of "Kapaz". Papunashvili and Volkov also gain a lot of playing time in "Zira" and do not show themselves badly. As for Karaishvili, he is also a good football player, but he has not yet fully expressed himself in "Sumgayit". I know him well. Karaishvili has great potential. Therefore, he should perform better than he is now.
– You used to be a teammate with most of the current head coaches in the Azerbaijan Premier League. We mean Gurban Gurbanov, Rashad Sadigov, Aykhan Abbasov, Samir Abasov, Elmar Bakhshiyev, Vagif Javadov and Elvin Mammadov. Is it interesting for you to watch their competition as coaches?
– You are right, I used to be a teammate with each of them. I am very glad that they stayed in football. I wish each of them success in their coaching career. Of course, it is very interesting for me to pay attention to the work of my friends, former teammates, and watch the competition between them.
