48-year-old Gennaro Gattuso left the Italian national team after losing to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 2026 World Cup play-off final (1:1, 1:4 in the penalty shootout). Italy will miss the World Cup for the third time in a row.
At the end of the 2025/2026 season, Lazio finished ninth in Serie A with 54 points.
