The opening ceremony of "Gabala - Sports Capital 2025" was held with the joint organization of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Gabala District Executive Authority. Sport24.az reports that the event held at the Gabala Olympic Sports Complex started with a parade of members of federations in various sports.
After a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the restoration of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and those who died as a result of the crash of the "Embraer 190" type passenger plane belonging to "Azerbaijan Airlines" Closed Joint-Stock Company performing the Baku-Grozny flight, the National Anthem was played.
Saida Abbasova, Deputy Head of the Guba District Executive Authority, who spoke at the event, spoke about the work done by Gabala in 2024.
She said that various sports events were organized in Guba last year: "2024 was also remembered for Guba with remarkable events in various sports, football and basketball clubs of our region were created. Serious work was done to popularize sports. I wish Gabala to cope with this honorable and responsible task properly."
Ataya Osmanova, Deputy Head of Gabala District Executive Authority, noted in her speech that they will benefit from Guba's experience: "I congratulate our youth on the occasion of such an event. The Gabala region is known not only in Azerbaijan but also internationally as a tourism center. Gabala has been selected as the "Youth Capital" among the CIS countries for the CIS Games in 2025. We believe that Gabala will host these sports events properly."
Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov congratulated the participants on the occasion of the sports holiday: "Of course, we are happy to see so many children here. This is the result of the successful work of the relevant agencies based on the instructions of the head of our country. I believe that the children we see here will achieve successful results in the future. I congratulate the residents of Guba. Various events held in Guba last year influenced the increase in the mass character of sports. I believe that we will do successful work this year together with the Gabala District Executive Authority and relevant agencies. The CIS Games will also be held in Gabala at the end of this year. In short, we have a lot of work to do."
After the official speeches, Farid Gayibov presented the symbolic key of the sports capital to Ataya Osmanova. Then, the mascot of "Gabala - Sports Capital 2025", "Marshal", was presented to the audience.
Sports ambassadors - coach of the national rhythmic gymnastics team Aliya Pashayeva, scout of the Azerbaijani national football team Ilgar Gurbanov, former judoka Orkhan Safarov and national sports coach Khayyam Orujov spoke.
The artistic part of the event continued with musical performances by young singer Mardan Kazimov.
It should be noted that the city of Gabala was selected as the sports capital of Azerbaijan for 2025 as a result of voting at the meeting of the Collegium of the Ministry of Youth and Sports on December 7, 2023. The purpose of choosing the "Sports Capital" is to increase and develop interest in sports in the regions, and to promote a healthy lifestyle.
