Four Premier League clubs are suspected of tax evasion.
According to "Report", citing "The Times", the UK's Revenue and Customs Office (HMRC) has launched an investigation into 33 sports clubs suspected of tax evasion.
Among the suspects are Premier League representatives Chelsea, Fulham, Nottingham Forest and Brentford.
HMRC claims that the clubs did not properly use the grant application scheme intended to support science and technology, research and development. According to the rules, organizations that have made and are striving for breakthroughs in science and technology can apply for a grant. However, according to the department, sports organizations have embezzled £17.4 million from the state budget in this way since 2019.
It is reported that Chelsea received approximately £3 million from the tax authority in 2020-2024, including payments for research and development activities.
Also, Nottingham Forest received 607 thousand in 2021-2022, and Fulham received 758 thousand pounds in 2019-2024.
In addition, it was reported that some clubs operate with the help of consulting firms specializing in tax benefits.
