The chairman of the FIFA Referees Committee, Pierluigi Collina, responded to the criticism of France's head coach Didier Deschamps regarding refereeing in the semifinals of the 2026 World Cup.
Sport.Biz reports that in the semifinals, France lost to Spain with a score of 2:0. The match was refereed by Ivan Barton from El Salvador. After the match, Deschamps asked the question: "Did the referee do his job in the semifinals?"
"In response to Deschamps' question, which cast doubt on the competence of our referee in this semifinal, FIFA's answer is clear: "Yes, undoubtedly. Our referees are world-class", - Collina said.
The 2026 World Cup will be held from June 11 to July 19 in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Argentina is the current world champion.
