FIFA president Gianni Infantino has left the US to attend the funeral of Qatar's former emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who died on Sunday at the age of 74. According to Sport24.az, "The Mirror" newspaper reported this.
After watching the England-Norway match (2:1) on Sunday, the FIFA president flew to Doha from Miami on a private plane. The plane landed in the Qatari capital the next day.
Infantino is expected to return to the US before the semi-finals today.
Infantino has very close ties with Qatar and its ruling family, the Al Thanis. The country hosted the FIFA World Cup for the first time in the Middle East in 2022.
Note that a four-day national mourning has been declared in Qatar since Sunday.
