FIFA president Gianni Infantino has claimed that ticket prices for the World Cup 2026 are not too high, after facing criticism from fans saying they are excessively high. According to Sport24.az, the head of the football organization made a statement to Reuters:
"It's normal for tickets to the opening match to start at $60. If we sold them at a lower price, they could end up on the black market. Every dollar earned will go back to the organization and will be spent on the development of football".
According to the president of the organization, more than six million tickets have been sold for the tournament, and demand exceeds supply by ten times.
Note that the World Cup 2026 will be held for the first time in three countries - Mexico, the United States, and Canada. The opening match between Mexico and South Africa will be held today at the "Estadio Azteca" stadium in the capital of Mexico. The game will start at 22:00 Baku time.
